'Comedy is not going to save you'

Watch the trailer for a new documentary about comedians and mental health

Sarah Silverman, Neal Brennan and Chris Gethard are among the US comedians who have made a new documentary about mental health.

A trailer has just been released for It's Not That Funny, which aims to open a 'real conversation' about the line between comedy and tragedy.

In the clip, Silverman says: '100 per cent of comedians become comedians because somewhere in their childhood they needed to be funny to survive.'

But Gethard cautions: 'Comedy is not going to save you. And if you are thinking of doing comedy as a substitute for therapy, it doesn't work. I tried. I tried for a long time. It doesn't work.'

Also taking part in the film are Rainn Wilson – who reveals that some of his real-life traumas informed his breakthrough role as Dwight in The Office –  Rachel Bloom, Baron Vaughn, Rikki Lindlome, Wayne Brady, Aparna Nancherla, Anna Akana and Sara Benincasa.

It's Not That Funny, made by Soul Pancake and Funny Or Die, will be released online later this summer.
