The clip emphasises the show's focus on covering stories in depth without being hostage to constantly breaking news.

But it constantly interrupted by Oliver's phone buzzing with alerts of the latest news story or Twitter spat.

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver returns to HBO on Sunday February 18. Previous episodes have been shown on Sky Atlantic the day after US transmission.
