Tim Minchin and other Aussie comics in Squinters
Here’s the first trailer for Squinters, a new Australian comedy featuring Tim Minchin.
The comic heads an ensemble cast that also includes comedians Susie Youssef, Rose Matafeo, Steen Raskopoulous and Sam Simmons.
Squinters is based on the morning commute, with the title coming because the drivers are squinting into the morning sun. Like Peter Kay’s Car Share, all the action takes places within vehicles.
The comedy – which also stars actors Miranda Tapsell, Andrea Demetriades and Damon Herriman – launches on the ABC on February 7.
As Chortle reported in October, the six-part series tracks five carloads of travellers including a dispatch driver hoping to win the woman of his dreams by carpooling her to work; a single mum keen to avoid her teen daughter making the same mistakes in love, while juggling a new romance of her own; a clueless ex-school bully hitching a ride with the guy he tormented; best girlfriends whose friendship is tested when one becomes the other’s unlikely boss; and a newly ‘out’, middle-aged man grappling with both possible redundancy and a recalcitrant dog.
