Canadian comedian DeAnne Smith has appeared on Australian TV to try to explain the acronym LGBTQI.

The Weekly's host Charlie Pickering asked: 'Is it strange being in a country like Australia where we don't have marriage equality?'

Smith, who got 'gay married' in Canada in 2006 – getting 'gay divorced' one year later, said: ''I like to take a right not everyone in the world has. Use it Spit on it. Throw it away. It's called privilege.'
