Although not one of the greatest comedy thinkers, Thorne's amiable cheekiness and easy banter make him a hit with audiences.

And there are a few stand-out moments of brilliance in his set, but all too often the routines are very pedestrian.

His material frequently relies on common ideas and the sort of observations we have all made from time to time. It's as if he's reinforcing his audience's own gags, rather than creating his own.

Although he regularly churns out the topical material, other segments are dated, with predictable gags about, say, Kate Adie always being dispatched to the world's trouble spots. And one 20-minute routine Chortle saw contained three separate sheep-shagging gags - all happily lapped up by the crowd, we should add.

It's all masterfully delivered, but ultimately too patchy to be memorable.
