Tommy Cooper's fez fetches £7k
Another iconic hat under the hammer
Another of Tommy Cooper’s fezzes has sold at auction for £7,000 - more than twice its estimate.
The hat is believed to be the last one owned by the comedian and was sold by Cooper impersonator Clive Greenaway.
Other items that went under the hammer in Milton Keynes included an evening dress suit Cooper wore to meet Elizabeth II in 1977, and props including his famous bottle-glass-glass-bottle trick and his tables, with fold-out women’s legs.
In 2021, a fez was sold off on Channel 4’s The Greatest Auction for £5,000, while another was sold by East Bristol Auctions for £4,000. And in 2010 one went for £4,750 at auction
But last year, two that were signed 'Just like that, Tommy Cooper, 1965’ achieved just £450 and £500.
Cooper was born in Caerphilly, Wales, and died from a heart attack he suffered during a live TV broadcast from Her Majesty's Theatre in London in April 1984, aged 63.
