I proposed with a bus timetable...

Comic Rory O’Keeffe's romantic stunt goes viral

comedyComedian Rory O’Keeffe has told how he proposed to his fiancée with a doctored bus timetable.

The 32-year-old stand-up got to know his partner Charlotte Amey when they started chatting at the stop outside London’s King’s Cross station.

And he decided to pop the question by making an amendment to the timetable posted there so it now shows ‘buses towards the future’   with stops reading: ‘Charlotte,’ Seven years ago’, ‘We met at this bus stop’ and ‘Now… will you marry me?’

O’Keeffe steered his girlfriend  – a 33-year-old French and Spanish teacher – towards the stop in May last year, after a night’s clubbing, and when  she took in the sign she turned to see her partner on one knee with a ring.

Surprisingly, the sign is still there and was spotted by BBC presenter Nuala McGovern this week. She posted a picture of the sign on Twitter, asking: ‘What happened, Charlotte?’ – which went viral, attracting nearly a million views

Now O’Keeffe told The Times how had  replaced the sign two days before they went out for the fateful night, and got Amey to read it by saying ‘Which bus did we get seven years ago, was it the 19 or the 17, I don’t remember?’

‘She said yes,’ he said. ‘It took her a while because she was overwhelmed. Your name is in a bus stop, it’s quite confusing.’ The couple are getting married in July.
