Call me Suzy, says Eddie Izzard

Trans comic reveals an alternative identity

Eddie Izzard has already adopted she/her pronouns – and now the comic has announced a feminine name she’ll also be going by.

The stand-up – who is trying to become a Labour MP – says she has wanted to use the name 'Suzy' since she was 10 years old.

Izzard was speaking about her gende fluidityto Matt Forde on his Political Party podcast, Izzard said: ‘I prefer to see she/her, I don't mind he/him… I'm Eddie,.

‘There’s another name I'm going to add in as well, which is Suzy, which I wanted to be since I was 10. I'm going to be Suzy Eddie Izzard.’

‘That's how I'm going to roll, so people can choose what they want. They can't make a mistake, they can't go wrong,"

Izzard, 61, has spoken about being trans since 1985, something she has likened to a superhero identity – and in 2020, publicly announced she would be using the pronouns she and her, saying she wanted ‘to be based in girl mode from now on’.

Last year. the comic lost a bid to secure the nomination to stand for Labour in Sheffield Central at the next general election.
