'I thought I was dying'
Janey Godley has said she thought she was going to die after she began choking during her gig last night.
The comic’s attack was so bad her daughter, fellow stand-up Ashley Storrie, had to run on stage at the Glasgow’s SEC Armadillo to help her.
Godley, who has terminal ovarian cancer, said on social media: ‘Just when I was choking and thought I was dying onstage my daughter ran on.
‘Banged my back, checked I was alive and improvised in front of 3,000 people until I got my breath back and we carried on with the show. Honey [her dog] made her stage debut tonight as well - what a night.’
In another post, she said: ‘Audience were absolutely horrified and equally worried - I couldn’t breathe and then @ashleystorrie ran on… so sorry I scared everyone.’
Storrie posted a picture of herself with red eyes, following the emotion of the incident.
She wrote: ‘Mum nearly choked to death on a sip of water, on stage, in front of thousands of people, I had to pat her back, ascertain if she was dying and also Take The Mic and do funny bits while she learned to breathe again. I’m a fucking wreck.’
Godley, 61, has said this tour – entitled Not Dead Yet – will be her last.
