Opening their art
Some of comedy’s famous names turned out for an exhibition of art by fellow comedians last night.
Jessica Hynes, Tom Allen, Jenny Eclair, Rory McGrath, Ed Gamble, Phil Wang, Lou Sanders and Katy Wix were among those at the opening of Art Is The Best Medicine.
The show, at London’s Fiumano Clase gallery, has been curated by stand-up and artist Annie McGrath to raise money for Mental Health UK.
She said that putting together the exhibition was ‘an amazing experience - I have been quite overwhelmed by the talent involved as well as how openly the artists have spoken to me about mental health issues they have overcome. ‘
Works in the Art Is The Best Medicine exhibition include drawings, paintings, sculpture, embroidery, ceramics, photography, poetry and video art. Those submitting pieces include Harry Hill, Vic Reeves. Josie Long, Jack Whitehall, Lolly Adefope and Joe Lycett.
Entry to the exhibition is free and all artworks are for sale, ranging from £50 to £600 – with the exception of Rob Auton’s portrait of Chris Tarrant, entitled ‘I want to be a millionaire’ which will be on sale for £1,000,000. The show closes on Friday.
