Sarah Silverman censored – while talking about censorship
Sarah Silverman has been censored – while talking about censorship.
The comic was questioned on the red carpet at last night’s Emmy awards about her attitude to the new censoriousness towards comedian’s work.
Yet broadcaster Fox deemed her response itself needed to be censored, and blanked out some crucial works.
While speaking to Kelly Osbourne, who was hosting the channel’s red-carpet coverage, Silverman said. ‘There’s a kind of righteousness porn going on in this cancel culture.
‘There’s nuance to it. There’s good and there’s bad. As a stand-up, it’s really odd. To talk about what’s really going on or to talk about the world as we decide to see it — or to push to see where the line is and to go past it — is so oddly unacceptable it’s safer to…’
And then then the audio cut out – although Silverman’ appeared to be saying ‘…just make pussy jokes.’
She concluded: ’It’s an odd time but I hope comedy pushes through.’
The censorship was revealed by showbiz website Deadline, which noted the irony of the situation. But not of its own decision to censor the word ‘pussy’ as ‘p*ssy’.
