John Bishop's bid to take over TV

comedyJohn Bishop's bid to dominate every corner of television continues apace.

Currently seen travelling around Ireland in an ITV travelogue, the comic is next piloting a cookery gameshow and an entertainment series celebrating British cities.

Now we can reveal that the comic is making a documentary about transporting two beluga whales from China to Iceland, John Bishop's Belugas, due to be broadcast on ITV later this year. He previously travelled to Rwanda for the same broadcaster for John Bishop’s Gorilla Adventure.

Closer to home, he's also joining the trend for comedians fronting football shows.

After Comedians Watching Football With Friends and Tim Vine's Football Genius, Bishop is piloting Back of the Net, in which he interviews big names from the beautiful game, with funny clips, heated debates and studio games.

The show is being recorded on May 9 at BT Studios in London and you can get tickets here

A former non-league player for Hyde and Southport, the ardent Liverpool fan previously interviewed some of the club's legends on its television channel LFC TV.

If producers of Back the Net are seeking clips, perhaps we could suggest this beauty from a charity match in which Bishop is accidentally kicked in the head by blindfolded former England striker Robbie Fowler:
