Frank Skinner's four-star tantrum
With the Edinburgh Fringe approaching, most comedians would be happy with a slew of four-star reviews
But not Frank Skinner, who has insisted only five-star verdicts appear on his poster so vehemently that he confesses to an episode of 'showbiz hysteria' that spoilt a tender family exchange.
Speaking to Metro today, the comic said: 'My partner sent me a picture a couple of years ago of our child standing next to a poster for one of my stand-up shows.
'She said, "Look at this picture of him looking up at his dad." I thought, "Hold on, they've put four-star reviews on the poster,' and my immediate response was to phone my management and say, "Take down the four-star reviews, I only want five up."
'What was a beautiful moment turned into showbiz hysteria.'
Like many comedians, Frank Skinner hates to read his own reviews, admitting, 'I run them over in my mind and find them torturous.'
But he told the newspaper he may have to bite the bullet as his first play, Nina's Got News, debuts in Edinburgh next week. 'I feel I have to with this,' he said. 'It will be difficult'.
