Actress played Charlie’s mum Bonnie

Lynne Marie Stewart, who played Charlie’s mum Bonnie on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, has died at the age of 78.

The actress’ manager Bette Smith told Hollywood trade website Deadline that Stewart died on Friday. She was diagnosed with a tumour between her liver and gallbladder in recent months after complaining of exhaustion.

Smith said: ‘Lynne was the most talented actress. She loved her craft above everything.’

And writing on Instagram, It’s Always Sunny star Charlie Day called her ‘brilliant and talented’ adding: : ‘RIP TV mom. Thank you for all the years of laughter.’

She recorded season 17 of the sitcom in December, which is due to air on FXX in the State  from June.

Stewart started her career with the The Groundlings improv troupe in Los Angeles alongside Paul Reubens and Phil Hartman.

She came to prominence played a number of roles in Reubens’s Pee-Wee Herman TV and film franchise, including Miss Yvonne.

Other credits include the films American Graffiti, Rain Man and Bridesmaids as well as episodes of M*A*S*H, Laverne & Shirley, The Golden Girls, Arrested Development and Curb Your Enthusiasm.
