Milking the laughs...

Former dairy becomes a comedy venue

A former dairy is being reimagined as a comedy club.

MKII, was once used to milk the cows which grazed on Hackney Marshes in East London, and has a sloped floor in the main hall allowing excess milk to run off.

It’s now a ‘multidisciplinary creative space’ – which is launching a new Sunday afternoon comedy club, Very Funny, from May 29.

The first bill includes Ria Lina and Mark Simmons, pictured,  who said: ‘It’s really fun doing stand-up in different spaces like this, it makes it feel like the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.’

And compere Danny Ward said: ‘Conventional wisdom is that comedy is held in the evenings. What’s to say that you can’t do that on a Sunday afternoon, being all done and dusted by half six?’

East London brewery Five Points are sponsoring the first gig, providing a free beer with the tickets, which are priced £10 on the door or £8 in advance.
