Comics to star in Pygmalion
A star-studded comedy cast is to star in a new recording of Pygmalion for Radio 4.
Alistair McGowan is to play Henry Higgins the professor of phonetics who teaches Eliza Doolittle to speak like a duchess. Fellow impressionist Morgana Robison will play the Cockney flower girl.
Al Murray, best known as the Pub Landlord, plays Eliza’s father, Alfred, a dustman. When the play was made into the musical (and film) My Fair Lady, that role went to comedian Stanley Holloway
The cast of the two-part series – due to start on Radio 4 at 3pm on May 28 – also includes Hugh Fraser as Colonel Pickering, Higgins's friend and fellow phoneticist, and Sian Phillips as Henry’s socialite mother,
