Friends becomes a musical

Could it BE more of a rip-off?

Friends is becoming a musical … sort of.

A new unauthorised parody based on the exploits of Rachel, Monica, Joey, Chandler, Phoebe, and Ross is being launched off-Broadway later this year.

Creators Bob and Tobly McSmith certainly have form in cashing in on hit TV shows, with previous projects including   90210! The Musical! and Full House! The Musical! and Bayside! The Musical!, based on Saved By The Bell.

Not much is known about the new show, but Tobly told Entertainment that ‘there will be smelly cat, there will be Janice, and there will be Fat Monica’ as well as jokes about the actors in the sitcom.

The list of songs in the musical has also been released, including 45 Grove Street — How Can We Afford This Place?, How You Doing, Ladies?, Hey Ugly Naked Guy Who Lives Across the Street and of course,  We Were On a Break!

The production opens at New York’s Triad Theatre this June.
