Oxford PhD candidate wins the People's Choice place

Anna Rae George has been selected as the last finalist in this year’s Chortle Student Comedy Award following a public vote.

The 29-year-old, originally from Kansas, is studying for a PhD in social data science at Oxford University – and this will be her second successive year in the final.

Almost 2,500 people had their say based on videos of the performances at the six semi-finals held across the UK.

She joins fellow finalists Anoushay Okhai, Fred Carver, Kathy Rivett, Kwesi Sekyi, Robert Mac an Tuile and Sofia Lambis.

The final will take place at the Pleasance in Edinburgh at 10pm on Monday August 11 – tickets will go on sale this week.

Finalists will also take place in a showcase at the Latitude Festival taking place in Suffolk from July 24 to 28.
