Hulu axes Reece Shearsmith's next comedy project
A planned American comedy featuring Reece Shearsmith has been axed, US trade media have reported.
The Inside No 9 star was among the cast of Downforce, about the ups and downs of a car racing team.
However, following a pilot commission, streamer Hulu has decided not to got ahed with the project.
It would have been led by Bad Sisters’ Eve Hewson as the estranged daughter of the team’s owner, played by Murray Bartlett from the The White Lotus and The Last Of Us. The plot revolved around the pair having to find common ground or risk destroying the team’s legacy.
Shearsmith – who is currently on the West End stage with the Inside No9 swansong Stage/Fright – would have played Alastair, Regent Racing’s fastidious chief race engineer.
The cast also included Harry Delano, Amar Chadha-Patel and Arturo Del Puerto, while it was written and executive produced by Silicon Valley writers Alec Berg and Adam Countee.
News that the comedy had been pulled was revealed by Deadline.
