Meet the first Chortle Hotshot of 2025

Edinburgh Fringe debutant Alex Stringer

Alex Stringer is the first Chortle Hotshot of 2025

The Liverpudlian comedian now receives some financial help bringing her debut, Happy Hour, to this year’s Edinburgh Fringe.

The show is about her being a ‘flawed, non-boring, complicated sober person’ having cleaned up seven years ago, when she was 23.

She was selected at our first showcase, held at Cultplex in Manchester last night by a panel of comedy experts. The second recipient of a bursary will be picked at another gig at the Monkey Barrel in Edinburgh on Wednesday (Tickets available here)

Stringer was already nominated for best show at last year’s Women In Comedy in Manchester and the previous year was shortlisted in the breakthrough category of the North West Comedy Awards.

Here’s a brief extract from her set:

Also taking part in last night’s showcase were Aaron Wood, Adam Anwar, Ava Liversidge, Dom Hatton Woods, Elle Pea, Jacob Nussey, Lindsey Davies, Nathan Birkinshaw and Paul Campbell.

Chortle will cover Stringer's Fringe registration fee as well as offering a package of advertising and other help with her show.
