Paramount+ pulls the plug on rebooted comedy

The Frasier reboot has been cancelled after two series.

Streaming platform Paramount+ will not be renewing the Kelsey Grammer-led comedy for a third season, it was revealed last night.

However, producers CBS Studios remains committed to the series and plans to hawk it around other outlets, trade website Deadline reported last night.

The sitcom which returned in 2022, also starred Only Fools And Horses actor Nicholas Lyndhurst as Alan, Frasier’s old college buddy turned university professor.

It saw the titular psychiatrist return to Boston – where the character was first conceived as a regular in Cheers –  to take an academic job, having jacked in his radio phone-in in Seattle,

The series also stars Jack Cutmore-Scott as Frasier’s son, Freddy, who he went to live with, Toks Olagundoye as Olivia,  head of the university’s psychology department, Jess Salgueiro as Eve, Frasier’s neighbour; and Anders Keith as his nephew, David.

Several stars of Cheers and the original Fraiser also revised their roles for guest appearances including Bebe Neuwirth, asFrasier’s ex-wife Lilith, Peri Gilpin as Roz Doyle, Dan Butler as Bob "Bulldog" Briscoe, Edward Hibbert as Gil Chesterton and Harriet Sansom Harris as Frasier’s agent, Bebe Glazer

Deadline reports that possible new hones for the comedy include Prime Video and Hulu, which both carry the back catalogue of Frasier‘s original run.
