Glasgow gets its biggest comedy festival yet

550 shows coming in March

The Glasgow International Comedy Festival has unveiled  its biggest line-up yet, with more than 550 shows.

Among the names added to the lineup today are Russell Kane, Jenny Eclair, Andy Zaltzman, Jamali Maddix, Tom Segura, Catherine Bohart, Jimeoin, and Felicity Ward as well as Scottish acts including Susie McCabe, Fern Brady, Paul Black, Marjolein Robertson, Rosco McClelland, Darren Connell and Larry Dean.

Bohart said: ‘I can’t wait to be back in Glasgow to do my show again, I’ve always loved performing there. Glaswegian audiences are raucous, and I feel like the Scottish and Irish share a sense of humour and are up for a good time.’

Fellow comic Craig Hill added: ‘Glasgow International Comedy Festival has an absolute riot of an audience, so this is one I really, really look forward to’

The festival – which runs across 40 venues  for 19 days from March 12 – will also be funding initiatives aimed at making comedy more accessible.

And the comedy gala on March 30 will reveal the winner of the festival’s only official award: the Sir Billy Connolly Spirit of Glasgow Award, chosen by the Big Yin from a shortlist compiled by judges. Susie McCabe won last year and Janey Godley in 2023 winner.

Festival director Krista MacDonald said: ‘Comedy plays a vital role in Glasgow's cultural identity and our city's comedy scene regularly produces acts who go on to impress on a worldwide stage. From our unique legacy of comedy performers to the top touring acts of today and through to the next generation of breakthrough talent, Glasgow is the starting point for countless acts and we can't wait to celebrate that this spring.’
