More Comedy Stores set to open across the UK
More Comedy Store venues are set to open across the UK under a new deal with live entertainment giant Live Nation.
The two companies have been working together for the past six years, putting on more than 500 line-up shows in UK theatres under the Comedy Store name.
And now they have signed a new franchise deal described as ‘paving the way for the creation of purpose-built comedy venues across the United Kingdom’.
Anna Cooke, vice-president of European comedy touring with Live Nation, said: ‘By creating more comedy club venues, we’re ensuring that audiences across the UK can enjoy the very best in stand-up comedy, while offering a new stages for both emerging and established performers.’
Ian Coburn, president of that division, added: ‘The Comedy Store has a rich heritage of nurturing the brightest stars in comedy while delivering unmatched live experiences to audiences. This agreement underscores our belief in the enduring appeal of live comedy and The Comedy Store’s unique ability to cultivate talent and connect with audiences.’
It has not yet been revealed where any future Comedy Stores may be located or how many are intended.
The Comedy Store was set up in London in 1979, and moved to its current venue in Piccadilly Circus in 1993. It opened a Manchester venue in 2000, which has been closed for several years because of structural problems with the building and had a short-lived operation Leeds in 2003-4.
Founder and chief executive Don Ward said: ‘This franchise agreement enables us to bring our signature experience to new markets, meeting the growing demand for live comedy.’
