BBC to air Janey Godley's last special
The BBC is to air Janey Godley’s last stand-up special to remember the Glaswegian comic who died this month.
The title of the show Janey Godley’s Still Got It! referred to the return of her cancer in 2022 .
It was recorded at Websters Theatre in her home town while she was undergoing chemotherapy, and was her first gig in six months.
The show was recorded for a half-hour Radio 4 special and is still available on BBC Sounds. Now an extended 50-minute TV version will air on BBC Scotland at 10.30pm on December 18.
In the show the comedian faces up to her mistakes in what the corporation describe as ‘a hilarious, touching and scorchingly honest stand-up comedy performance’.
The broadcaster adds: ‘his show was a landmark moment in her life and career. Time in recovery and isolation gave Janey a new perspective on how she lived her life, on how fragile people can be, and that maybe she does care about what others think of her.’
The special was directed by Richard Melvin and produced by Julia Sutherland.
Godley passed away on November 2 at the age of 63, having moved into end-of-life palliative care in September.
Her hearse will travel through Edinburgh – her ‘beloved festival home’ – tomorrow ahead of her funeral at St Mary’s Cathedral in Glasgow’s West End on Saturday.
It will travel along the Royal Mile and Lawnmarket in Edinburgh from 2.30pm with a ‘pause for reflection’ at St Giles' Cathedral before travelling along Cockburn Street, Market Street and on to Glasgow.
Her funeral service will be at 10am at St Mary’s, and shown on a screen outside the cathedral. It will also be streamed on YouTube.
Afterwards, at 11.30pm, the funeral procession will head along Great Western Road towards the crematorium for a private family farewell.
