Documentary goes inside Inside No 9

...and details of Philomena Cunk's latest special revealed

The BBC is to say farewell to Inside No 9 with an hour-long documentary telling the story of the inventive anthology series.

To air over Christmas, the one-off features ‘extensive candid moments’ with creators Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton as well as interviews with stars who have appeared in the series.

Cameras also shot behind-the-scenes footage throughout the making of the show’s final run, from the writers’ room to the make-up trailer, from prop store to set design.

Inside No. 9: The Party’s Over has been unveiled as part of BBC Two’s Christmas schedule highlights today.

As previously announced, Diane Morgan will also be back as Philomena Cunk in Cunk On Life.

The 75-minute show is described as ‘her most ambitious quest to date; venturing right up the universe and everything, to examine life itself’.

The character will apply her intellect to consider quantum physics, existentialism, nihilism, hedonism, the Big Bang, biology,  art and artificial intelligence wile examining some of history’s foremost thinkers, from Dostoyevsky to Van Gogh, from Nietzsche to ‘whoever came up with those signs in kitchens that say, Live Laugh Love’.

Charlie Brooker wrote the episode with Morgan, Ben Caudell, Erika Ehler, Charlie George, Eli Goldstone, Jason Hazeley, Lucia Keskin, Joel Morris and  Michael Odewale

Meanwhile, another behind-the-scenes show will air on BBC One to mark the end of Gavin & Stacey, 17 years after it first aired.

A Fond Farewell features ‘unprecedented access’ to creators James Corden and Ruth Jones as well as the cast and crew as they film the final episode, due to air on Christmas Day.
