Chris McCasusland's samba 'wonderful' BUT...

Comic does only OK as Strictly competition heats up

Chris McCausland found himself near the bottom of the Strictly leaderboard this week, as competition heats up in the show's tenth week.

He and partner Dianne Buswell scored 33 points for their paso doble to the Spanish opera song El Gato Montes (The Wild Cat). They then picked up just one bonus point for their performance in the samba danceathon involving all the couples.

Their 34 points tied with with Jamie Borthwick and Michelle Tsiakkas, with only  Pete Wicks and Jowita Przystał  scoring worse, with 32 points.

Tasha Ghouri and Aljaz Skorjanec topped the leaderboard with a perfect 40 for their American Smooth to Someone You Loved by Lewis Capaldi, plus six from the danceathon.

McCausland told viewers his goal was to try to make it to week 10 so Dianne’s parents - who had flown in from New Zealand to be in the studio - could see her dancing

Craig Revel Horwood said  their dance was 'wonderful' - but added a 'but', saying the comedian 'lacked smooth Spanish flair - knees too high,' but concludes it was a 'solid and strong' performance.

Motsi Mabusi said she 'loved the intention and commitment' but said McCausland was 'uncertain in places'.

Shirley Ballas praised the comic's 'impressive steps and separation [with] nothing out of place', and Anton du Beke said he 'loved it'.
