Medical drama halts Adam Kay show
And the doctor turned comedian and author had to call a halt to his stand-up show his week – after an audience member suddenly required medical attention.
He was 15 minutes into his comedy show Undoctored at Blackpool’s Grand Theatre on Tuesday when an audience member shouted: ‘Medic!'
And luckily there were plenty in the room, as Kay tends to attract a lot of NHS staff to his show.
One member of the audience, Steve Bather, told the Blackpool Gazette: ‘At first we thought it was part of the show as we've never heard anyone shout "medic!" before during a show but Adam took control from the stage and asked if there were any doctors in and could they help. Incredibly two dozen jumped out of their seats to help! It was great to see them all react that way.
‘The show was paused for 15 minutes and when he came back on Adam half joked there were far more medical professionals in the audience than in any of the major hospitals in the area.’
This is at least the fourth time something similar has happened at one of Kay’s shows, saying in 2021 that it had happened three times already.
In 2021 a woman collapsed during a Manchester Opera House show, and another fainted at the Garrick Theatre in London in 2019.
A Grand Theatre spokesperson said that their front-of-house team ‘responded swiftly, ensuring the individual received immediate assistance… we are grateful to our team and the emergency services for their quick and professional response’.
