Guz Khan returns for a fifth run

Filming has begun on the fifth and final series of Gus Khan’s  Man Like Mobeen.

The BBC has released the first two images of the cast as they work on location in Coventry and Turkey.

One shows Guz Khan as the lead character, while the other – below – features co-stars Tolu Ogunmefun as Nate and Perry Fitzpatrick as Harper.

Khan said: ‘Listen, please, this is very important to the sanctity and functionality of my life. I can’t even shop in Aldi without someone popping out from behind the bread aisle and asking me when there’s going to be more Man Like Mobeen.

‘So for you, and only for you, here’s one, final, very last, never to be done again season of Man Like Mobeen. P.S Please don’t make me make any more, I got loads of kids to raise and that. Love you.’

The new series comprises six episodes – more than any previous episode – and will air next year.

It picks up with Mobeen outside prison, where he survived a stabbing attack in the last episode of series 4. The season ended with Mobeen’s innocent younger sister Aqsa  (Dúaa Karim) in the United Arab Emirates, about to meet drug kingpin Khan (Art Malik).

Tom Jordan, creative director of comedy at programme-makers Tiger Aspect, said: ‘We’re thrilled to be bringing Mobeen back to the screen. He has a lot of unfinished business, and this series aims to be the most ambitious and hilarious yet. Can’t wait for audiences to see what we’ve got in store.’

And the BBC’s director of comedy Jon Petrie added: ‘Man Like Mobeen has been a comedy juggernaut for BBC Three, and saying goodbye is going to be tough for everyone. But as much as we don’t want to, we’ve got to be grown-ups and accept it's the end. Guz Khan and [co-writer] Andy Milligan have crafted something truly special in these final scripts, and we're going out with a bang… even if keeping a straight face will be a challenge. It's the last series, but it’s bigger and funnier than ever."

Other returning cast include Salman Akhtar as Saj, Mark Silcox as Uncle Shady, Korkmaz Arslan as Turkish barber Emre, and Hussina Raja as Mobeen’s crush – and Khan’s daughter – Nida.

Series 4 of Man Like Mobeen achieved an average audience of 1.1m and was the top performing BBC Three comedy of 2023.  The first four seasons are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
