Sam Campbell to make a Channel 4 comedy

Make This Movie is a 'new-era comedy gang-show'

Sam Campbell is to make a Channel 4 comedy, playing a hotshot director scouring  the country for everyday people who have an idea for a feature film – which he then tries to make in three days.

The cast of Make That Movie also includes comedians Lara Ricote  as runner Jess, Aaron Chen as intimacy coordinator Sebastian, and  Helen Bauer  as sound engineer Pat.

The 84-year-old actor David Hargreaves who played Arthur Andrews in This Country, will be cinematographer Winnie.

Work will start soon on the six-part scripted comedy series which 2022 Edinburgh Comedy Award winner and former Taskmaster contestant Campbell created.

He said: ’It’s a bit like one of those shows where they fix up someone’s garden. But this is about something people genuinely care about – movie magic. Let’s be honest with ourselves, a garden has never grossed over a billion dollars at the box office.’

Charlie Perkins, Channel 4’s head of comedy, said: ‘Sam epitomises the colour, creativity and innovation that Channel 4 comedy stands for.

‘He has an undeniable, completely unique and enormous comedy brain and is generous and tenacious in his artistry - the perfect figurehead for this new-era comedy gang-show. This is going to be fun.’

The show is directed by Joe Pelling, co-creator of the cult animated comedy Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared, and is made by Blink Industries.
