Jessica Knappett joins Christian Brighty's radio sitcom
Jessica Knappett and Dark Knight star Colin McFarlane have joined the cast of Radio 4’s new period sitcom The Many Wrongs of Lord Christian Brighty.
The four-part series – which starts later this month – revolves around the aristocratic Regency-era alter-ego of comedian Christian Brighty
Taskmaster star Knappett plays his uneducated but forthright chambermaid Babs, who tells him the unvarnished truth about his selfish behaviour, prompting him to try to change his ways.
And McFarlane – the villainous Gillian B. Loeb in Christopher Nolan’s Batman films – plays reluctant butler Churlington,, who would prefer everything to stay exactly as it used to be.
The ensemble cast also features a number of familiar comedy names including Chiara Goldsmith, Katia Kvinge, Joz Norris, Nimesha Odedra and David Reed, who also worked as script editor for the series.
Brighty wrote the series with regular collaborator Amy Greaves. Their online sketches featuring the privileged fop, who started life in an Edinburgh Fringe show have attracted more than 100 million views on TikTok and Instagram.
When the sitcom was announced, Brighty said: ‘This is an absolute dream come true. The idea that I’m getting to write and star in our own sitcom still doesn’t feel real.’
And he thanked his online followers, saying: ‘This opportunity genuinely wouldn’t have happened without all your support. It’s come about basically because of people liking the silly videos I make.’
Episode one airs on Radio 4 at 11pm on August 24.
