Go-ahead for G'wed series 2 and 3
ITV has renewed its Liverpool-set teen comedy G’wed for two more series.
Filming of the second season gets under way this summer after the first became the biggest comedy on streaming service ITVX behind Alan Carr’s Changing Ends.
Executive producer Mario Stylianides said: ‘Comedy really is back in the building. There was so much love for G’wed from audiences far and wide. It’s great that we’ll get the chance to spend even more time exploring the joyful complicated lives of our Scouse characters.’
The comedy was created by Danny Kenny – a writer new to TV – and the second series will follow Liverpudlian teenagers Reece, Christopher, Connor, Ted, Mo, Aimee and Mia-Louise through issues of ‘consent, age-gap relationships and the acceptable way to make money while still at school’.
Kenny said: ‘It’s amazing and exciting that we get to do this again and I can’t wait for series 2 and 3 next year.’
The first episode of G’Wed, which dropped in February, attracted 1.7million viewers for episode 1 across ITVX, ITV1 and ITV2. In total, episodes have been streamed 4.9 million times,
Nana Hughes, ITV’s head of comedy, said: ‘It is great to see that G’wed has resonated with our audiences. Danny Kenny’s writing had us crying with laughter one second, crying real tears the next and then back to laughter and the hugely talented cast brought so much charm and cheek to the show, we can’t wait to welcome everyone back to Liverpool for a second and third series when G’wed returns in 2025.’
The series is produced by Golden Path Productions and stars Dylan Thomas-Smith, Jake Kenny-Byrne, Max Ainsworth, Dominic Murphy, Zak Douglas, Amber Harrison, Gemma Barraclough.
