Opening soon: Hot Water's new 560-seat home
The new home of Liverpool’s Hot Water Comedy Club is set to open this spring.
The new £7million Blackstock Market development will feature a 590-seat auditorium, one of the largest permanent comedy clubs in the world and two-and-a-half times the size of Hot Water’s current home in Hardman Street.
Three other performance spaces are also part of the 60,000sq ft project, which had originally been scheduled to open two years ago.
The whole site is the brainchild of Toxteth-raised brothers Paul and Binty Blair, who set up Hot Water in 2010. It will also feature bars, a food market and a giant rooftop terrace, the largest in Liverpool.
Paul Blair said: ‘This project has been a labour of love over the past 30 months. With an aim to enrich Liverpool's arts and culture, Blackstock Market will feature live music from morning till night, and nightly comedy shows.
‘Open every day and night, we're dedicated to establishing Blackstock Market as a central pillar of Liverpool's vibrant cultural and community life.’
The site will also employ around 100 new staff.
Hot Water has played host to the likes of Dave Chappelle, Jason Manford and John Bishop and is the world's most successful comedy club on social media with more than 6.5million followers and averaging over 20million video views a month.
Laugh Factory in Long Beach, California, claims to be the world’s biggest permanent comedy club with 650 seats.
