Now Brighton gets a SECOND comedy festival
The Brighton Dome has unveiled a new comedy festival – just 24 houts after the city’s Comedy Garden confirmed that it would be returning this year.
Fern Brady, Nish Kumar, Maisie Adam and Kiell Smith-Bynoe are among the names playing the Dome’s three venues from October 24 to 27.
Brady, pictured, and Adam are also playing the Comedy Garden, which runs in the city’s Preston Park, from July 3 to 7. That festival’s big top will also feature performances from the likes of Harry Hill, Sara Pascoe, Simon Amstell, Tim Key and Dara O Briain.
The Dome’s announcement follows the reopening of its 500-seater Corn Exchange and 230-seater Studio Theatre.
The festival also includes the refugee comedy collective No Direction Home as well as tour dates from Julia Masli, Rob Auton and Kiri Pritchard-McLean.
Every show in the festival will be live-captioned by a team led by comedy specialist Claire Hill.
Rosie Crane, the venue’s comedy producer, said: ‘Fitting all of Brighton Dome’s comedy favourites into just four days has been a challenge but I believe there really is something for everyone in what I hope will be the wittiest, silliest, most joyful and inclusive festival of all that is funny. This is just the beginning for Brighton Dome Comedy Festival.’
The Dome was previously the hub of a comedy festival run by agency giant Off The Kerb, whose larger-than-life boss Addison Cresswell was from the city, but that ended several years ago.
Brighton also has an annual Fringe with a strong comedy strand. This year’s festival, featuring more than 600 events, goes on sale from May 3.
