Live tour for David Walliams
David Walliams has announced his first live comedy tour.
The Little Britain star turned bestselling children’s author will perform An Audience with David Walliams in Australia and New Zealand in September and October.
Billing it as ‘an outrageously cheeky evening’ and ‘a little bit naughty’, promoters say: ‘Expect wickedly funny tales, beloved characters, and a glimpse behind the curtain at never-before-seen moments from Walliams’ storied career, all served up with his signature wit and charm.’
The comic himself said of his antipodean tour: ‘Audiences down under are the best. Matt [Lucas] and I had the greatest time touring Little Britain in Australia, and so I am delighted to be back on the stage here.
‘I have never done a show like this before, which makes it all the more exciting. I promise there will be lots of laughs, stories I have never told before and a chance for you to ask me anything you want. I will be expecting some rude questions! And I can’t wait to see you all there.'
The dates are billed as a 'world premier tour' suggesting he could take the show elsewhere, including the UK.
After Little Britain and its follow-up Come Fly With Me, Walliams became a judge on Britain’s Got Talent, and more latterly, Australia’s Got Talent.
However he left the franchise in 2022, after sexist comments he made about contestants off-camera were leaked to the press. He subsequently sued producers Freemantle over the privacy breach, and won an apology - to the dismay of one of the contestants who thought he was disparaging her.
In his parallel career, Walliams' children’s books have sold more than 37million copies worldwide.
Tickets for the Australian and New Zealand dates go on general sale on March 26 .
