BBC series for sketch duo Stevens & McCarthy

‘Two of Scotland’s most exciting live comedy performers’

Sketch duo Stevens & McCarthy are to make a comedy series for BBC Scotland, it has been announced today.

The pair – Gayle Telfer Stevens and Louise McCarthy – previously made a number of iPlayer shorts for the broadcaster, but have now landed a full four-part series mixing sketches, spoofs and songs.

BBC Scotland’s commissioning executive Gavin Smith, who is also an executive producer on the show, called the pair ‘two of Scotland’s most exciting live comedy performers’.

Telfer Stevens said: ‘Brace yourself for the biggest female-led comedy sketch show since the 90s. Big, bold and better than ever, Stevens & McCarthy are back.’

And McCarthy  said: ‘It’s pretty much an all-girl team here and we are so thrilled to bring this girl power energy to your screens. Expect the usual madness from us two - bonkers characters and a good auld sing-a-long thrown in for good measure.’

Filming has  just started on the half-hour episodes, to be made by Glasgow-based company The Comedy Unit – which is also producing a spin-off from Scot Squad, called The Chief.
