Curb Your Enthusiasm comes to an end
Larry David is ending Curb Your Enthusiasm after 24 years.
America’s HBO network has announced the 12 series of the show – due to start on February 4 in the US – will be the last.
David said: ‘As Curb comes to an end, I will now have the opportunity to finally shed this "Larry David" persona and become the person God intended me to be – the thoughtful, kind, caring, considerate human being I was until I got derailed by portraying this malignant character.
‘And so "Larry David", I bid you farewell. Your misanthropy will not be missed. And for those of you who would like to get in touch with me, you can reach me at Doctors Without Borders.’
HBO owners Warner Bros-Discovery also confirmed that Tracey Ullman – who plays no-filter Santa Monica councilwoman Irma Kostroski – will be returning for the new series alongside regulars Jeff Garlin, Susie Essman, Cheryl Hines, J.B. Smoove, Richard Lewis, Ted Danson and Vince Vaughn
Casey Bloys, chairman and chief executive of HBO, said: ‘It’s hard to say farewell to such a ground-breaking, brilliantly funny and iconic series like Curb Your Enthusiasm, which has left its mark across television and the comedy genre.
‘Working alongside Larry David and [executive producer] Jeff Schaffer as well as all of the comedic masterminds that comprise our producers, cast and crew has been a joy that I will always treasure.’
Curb began in 2000 and HBO always said it would continue commissioning it as long as Seinfeld co-creator David wanted to keep making it. He took a six-year hiatus between the eighth and ninth seasons before returning in 2017.
