Social media post dominates news agenda

A Twitter account with just over 100 followers has suggested that Lee Mack might get ‘cancelled’ over a joke he made at the National Television Awards this week.

User @Alex05923602, who has 106 followers on the site now known as X, posted: ‘Well Lee Mack is gonna get cancelled now #NTAs’.

Her comment was treated as news by Mail Online, The Sun, Metro, the Daily Express, Yorkshire Live, Birmingham Live, Chronicle Live, the Daily Mirror, SportBible and Lad Bible – and has caused 'Lee Mack' to trend on X.

GB News stated as fact that ‘he's fallen into the firing line of the wokies.’

At the ceremony, which was televised on ITV, Mack collected the award for best quiz show for  The 1% Club  from Lioness Jill Scott and joked: ‘To receive a sex toy like this off Jill Scott is an absolute pleasure."

And he made a quip about all the other hosts of shortlisted shows being white men.

He said: ‘I want to thank Michael McIntyre, I wanna thank Richard Osman, I wanna thank Bradley Walsh, proving that if you get really funny people to host a show, it's a good idea. And also shows diversity targets are really working. Doesn’t matter if you're 5"6 or 7"9, it's for everyone.’

GB News continues to employ Dan Wooton, despite allegations he offered colleagues money for sexual images – claims he has called ‘a witch hunt’
