Alex Edelman's Fringe farewell to director Adam Brace
American comic Alex Edelman is bringing his Broadway show Just For Us back to the Edinburgh Fringe in tribute to his director, Adam Brace, who died in May at the age of 42.
Money raised from the one-off show at the Pleasance Grand on August 26 will go towards setting up an award in Brace’s name to help develop new talent.
Edelman said: ‘My collaboration with Adam started at the Fringe in 2012. Our first show together in 2014 gave me the ability to be a comedian. And I think it’s appropriate that, after such a long journey, this show should have an Edinburgh goodbye - in his honour - at the Festival that was Adam’s favourite place. And mine.’
Just For Us – which revolves around the Jewish comic infiltrating a meeting of white nationalists – ends a six-week run at New York’s Hudson Theatre next Saturday.
As well as all of Edelman’s shows, Brace, also worked with Liz Kingsman on her acclaimed One Woman Show, Leo Reich on his stand-up show Literally Who Cares and Ahir Shah on his HBO Max special Dots.
A spokesperson for Soho Theatre, where he was an associate director, said: ‘He was a unique talent of our time, working with artists all over the world across theatre, comedy and performance. Adam was fiercely proud of all of his shows and the artists he worked with, he loved working with them, and everyone loved working with him.
‘A festival staple, Adam’s presence is very much missed at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival by family, friends, colleagues and collaborators, with performers talking about his influence and impact of his loss on stage in their shows.’
Tickets for the show, priced £20 or £18 for concessions, are on sale here.
No further details of the Adam Brace Award have yet been announced, but further donations can be made through Soho Theatre’s website.
