Colin Higgins needed stitches after woman's attack

Fringe comedian Colin Higgins needed hospital treatment after being punched in the face by a woman in his audience.

The 40-year-old needed stitches to his mouth after the drunk punter attacked him just after he came offstage at Leith Depot on Friday night.

He told the Daily Record: ‘I got the shock of my life. Police were called and the woman was arrested. It’s the last thing you expect when you have an audience roaring with laughter.’

‘There was blood everywhere. To say I was stunned is an understatement. I didn’t know what to do. The staff at Leith Dept were just incredible."

‘It’s still very painful but the show must go on. I’ll be left with a nasty scar.’

Higgins, from Carluke, Lanarkshire, started stand-up as a way of overcoming the horrific abuse he suffered as a child at the hands of notorious predators Charles O’Neill and William Lauchlan.

His show, Painspotting, is a three-hander with Graham Mackie and Cubby also on the bill.

Police Scotland confirmed they attended the incident.
