Comic writes a book about running a fictional club

Comedian Kevin Day is writing a book about running a football club.

Described as a ‘smart and irreverent guide’, Unfit And Improper Persons charts a fiction club’s rise from the lowest level of the FA pyramid to the  Premier League and European championships.

He wrote the book with football finance expert Kieran Maguire and producer Guy Kilty, his colleagues on the Price of Football podcast which looks at the commercial side of the sport and has run for almost 400 episodes.

The book – out on October 12 – will ask questions such as where to find a shirt sponsor?   Can they pay the women's team the same as the men's team? And what's the best way to avoid money laundering charges?

Blurb from publishers Bloomsbury Sport adds: ‘Roofing over the toilets, paying the electric on the floodlights, salary caps, parachute payments and avoiding bankruptcy, never mind relegation - owning a football club isn't all about stuffing prawn sarnies and quaffing champagne in the directors' box.’

The title will also include contributions from experts and celebrities including Gary Lineker, Clare Balding, Ainsley Harriott and Jo Brand.

Three years ago, Day –  a former Match of the Day 2 presenter – wrote Who Are Ya?: 92 Football Clubs And Why You Shouldn’t Support Them; while Maguire previously wrote a Price Of Football tie-in book.

Unfit and Proper Persons: An Alternative Guide to Running a Football Club is available to pre-order from Amazon, priced £16.99 in hardback.
