The Secret Tory outs himself
Personal trainer and rave producer Henry Morris has outed himself as the man behind Twitter’s satirical Secret Tory account.
The ultra marathon runner revealed his true identity after several days of teasing posts which fuelled speculation that the account was being run by a real MP.
He came clean after building up nearly 200,000 followers in the four years since the account launch.
Last year Morris even published a spin-off book The Diary of a Secret Tory MP: (Almost!) True Stories from the Heart of British Politics.
He revealed his true identity in a video posted online today.
Morris stages amateur Shakespeare productions in Wales, is behind the Field Maneuvers rave in Norfolk and has campaigned on wildlife issues alongside Chris Packham.
He initially set up the account in the name of hardcore eurosceptic Conservative MP Mark Francois, calling it Mark ne Francois pas, before changing its name to Michael Govern Ready and, ultimately, The Secret Tory.
Speaking to the BBC, Morris said: ‘ Other people discover they're good at things like ballet or darts. Turns out I'm very good at pretending to be a Tory MP.
‘ have loved the wind-up, but I reckon its time to let people know who I really am. And anyway, I'm sure an AI will be able to do all this in a few weeks.
‘If people are feeling cheated I'm not a real MP, I'd like to say I'm sorry – but I'm not. It’s got a lot more to do with the behaviour of the people sitting in Westminster, than my skills as a con artist.’
