Comic claims 'exceptional hardship' after being caught speeding

Jim Davidson has appeared at Southampton Crown Court in a bid to reverse a 12-month driving ban for speeding.

He appealed the ban, which was given at Aldershot Magistrates Court in February, with an ‘exceptional hardship’ plea.

Jim represented himself in court as his barrister was stuck in another trial and the court refused to adjourn the hearing.

Judge Peter Henry accepted that there was some exceptional hardship, the comic’s website says, but not enough to overturn the ban completely. He reduced the ban to six months.

Following the decision, Davidson had to leave his car outside the court and walk two miles in blistering heat.

The comic has been ‘nick-nicked’ for speeding twice before.

In 2010, he was fined £130 even though he claimed he was not driving when his car was clocked at 96mph in Devon.

And the following year he was given a six-month driving ban for refusing to name who was behind the wheel of his £135,000 convertible Aston Martin DB9 Volante when it was snapped at 39mph in a 30 zone in Maidstone, Kent.
