Spare and Spare-alike
Prince Harry’s much-mocked memoir Spare is about to get another savaging – with a parody version to be published next month.
Spare Us has been written by Bruno Vincent, who previously wrote the spoof Enid Blyton for Grown-ups series, which included titles such as Five On Brexit Island.
A brief quote from the parody – or rather ‘ Harrody’ – gives an indication of its tone: ‘All I had ever wanted was privacy. In order to get it, it seemed that an exceptionally detailed 500,000-word book was in order…’
And according to the blurb from publishers Abacus: ‘He was born into an ancient powerful dynasty and, through no fault of his own, became one of the most recognisable men on the planet.
‘His life was a constant barrage of press intrusion and manipulation. Until finally, he demanded that it stop. In order to get the privacy he so craved, he has written a warts-and-all book that goes deep inside the castle walls and exposes every shouting match, fist-fight, betrayal, teddy bear, awkward hug and tear-stained wedding rehearsal for the world to feast their eyes on. All for privacy!’
Its publication on April 6 follows last month’s South Park episode Worldwide Privacy Tour, which similarly skewered the Sussexes – fictionalised as the Prince and Princess of Canada – for demanding privacy while signing multi-million-dollar media deals.
