Paul Foot gets personal

Comic's new tour to tell how his trauma and depression 'dissolved away'

He is known for his bizarre flights of fancy, but surreal comedian Paul Foot has promised his new show will be his most personal yet.

The stand-up has today announced his new 26-date tour, Dissolve, for the autumn, and admits its content will be ‘surprising’ for fans.

In providing a quote to promote  the tour, Foot said: ‘I’ve re-written this quote 46 times now. In all my years of showbusiness I’ve never written a quote like this before.

‘This is the most personal show I’ve ever created and the first time I’ve spoken about these things on stage. On March 20, 2022, something unbelievable happened to me, that I still struggle to explain. 29 years of mental health crises, childhood trauma and life-altering depression dissolved away in an instant.

‘It is also, incidentally, really funny throughout. I am a comedian after all.’

The blurb for the show from producers Plosive Live adds: ‘Never has he been so vulnerable, honest and happy. You may ask yourself what his secret is, but you will have to hear it from the man himself.’

But they do add that the tour will contain some of the more oddball elements that have made Foot a cult star, admitting: ‘Inevitably he does get distracted by King Tutankhamun, the House of Lords, Sir Cliff Richard, officious lollipop ladies and what Jesus might have achieved if he’d been a plumber.’

Dissolve is co-written and directed by Paul’s long-time collaborator, comedy writer Aaron Kilkenny-Fletcher, who has previously spoken of his own battles with Lyme disease.

The tour kicks off at Arts Depot in Finchley, North London, on September 28 and runs until the end of November. Paul Foot tour dates.

Tickets go on sale at 10am on Wednesday.
