Toast Of Tinseltown wins the Rose d'Or
Toast Of Tinseltown has won the international Rose d'Or award for best comedy.
The BBC show – which star Matt Berry wrote with Father Ted co-creator Arthur Mathews – picked up the award at a virtual ceremony hosted by Alex Horne last night.
On winning the award, Berry said: ‘Thank you very much indeed. I’m really sorry I can’t be there in person, I’m in Canada until the end of the year filming, being a vampire… Here’s to you Rose d’Or, every award means a lot to us.’
The Great – the satirical black comedy loosely based on the rise to power of Catherine the Great – took the award in the comedy drama and sitcom award.
Producer Marian Macgowan and creator Ton McNamara said: ‘This is fantastic, thank you very much. We’re just thrilled to receive this award, in such illustrious company.’
And Succession, the satirical comedy-drama about a media mogul’s scheming family, created by Jesse Armstrong, won the drama category.
Toast Of Tinseltown aired on BBC Two in January and February – seven years after the original Toast Of London series aired on Channel 4.
It revolved around Berry’s character Steven Toast, a voice-over artist and theatrical actor trying to establish a new life in America.
The longlist for the comedy category also featured British shows Bloods, Ellie & Natasia and Question Team, plus About Last Night (France), ANA (Mexico), As Seguidoras (Brazil), Die Carolin Kebekus Show (Germany), Gruen Nation (Australia), Joja's Bullitalk (Germany), La Flamme (Germany), LOL - Last One Laughing (Germany), Lust (Sweden), Mister Speaker (Sweden), Pepe (Hungary), The Wasp (Germany), UFOs (France) and What's Your Story? (Brazil).
