Liverpool council OKs Hot Water's huge new comedy club

Part of a major project to create new venues

Hot Water Comedy Club has cleared a major hurdle to open a major new music and stand-up venue in its Liverpool home town.

The City Council last night gave the green light to the club’s planning application to turn Blackstock Market into a major entertainment and media hub.

At the centre of the plans are a 560-capacity comedy club – two-and-a-half times the size of Hot Water’s current home in Hardman Street.

The redeveloped industrial site will also boat a second 225-seat theatre and 100-seat studio space, both of which will host comedy shows and tours, as well as a podcast theatre.

It will also have a food court with nine vendors, outdoor stage hosting music every night, plus a whisky bar and  sports bar with two roof terraces.

The new site is on the edge of the city centre, close to the entrance to the Kingsway Tunnel, compared to current more central site.

Originally, Hot Water’s Blackstock Market site was due to have  opened in April this year, but progress has been delayed.
