Nick Mohammed announces first ever tour
Nick Mohammed is to go on tour for the first time in the guise of his alter-ego Mr Swallow.
The Ted Lasso star will be performing a ‘greatest hits’ of routines from his previous Edinburgh and London shows – kicking off with a West End date at the Duke of York's Theatre on March 26.
In character as the enthusiastic but irritating Mr Swallow, Mohammed said: ‘Given the somewhat turbulent times we’re living in right now, I’ve decided it’s probably best I go on a national tour. Thank you in advance to everyone (in the country) for coming along.
‘One of the things I’m most proud of is how my "material" seems to resonate with both teenagers all the way up to the elderly and infirm, so frankly anyone can get it (like a virus). Looking forward to seeing/shouting at you soon.’
Mr Swallow has won fans though his five appearances on Channel 4’s 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown, with footage of his performances going viral. The clip of him memorising a deck of playing cards has been viewed more than 12 million times across various platforms.
He will repeat that feat on tour, as well as attempt to solve a Rubik’s cube, do some ‘pretty horrendous maths’ while on roller-skates, offer his version Les Mis … and complain about eating a banana.
Aside from Mr.Swallow, Mohammed has twice been nominated for an Emmy for playing Nate in Ted Lasso, and he starred alongside David Schwimmer, in Sky comedy Intelligence, which he also created and co-wrote.
Next year, he will be seen alongside Jon Hamm and Tina Fey in the feature film Maggie Moore(s), playing a cop in a dusty desert town where nothing ever happens – until two women with the same name wind up murdered. His character is described as ‘part-philosopher, part-wiseass who makes jokes in inappropriate situations as a defence mechanism’.
Mohammed is also an associate of the Inner Magic Circle and author of The Young Magicians series of children's books.
Tickets for the 14-date Very Best & Worst of Mr. Swallow tour go on general sale on Friday at 10am.
