Naked Gun to be rebooted

With Liam Neeson tipped to play Sgt Drebin

Naked Gun is set to return to cinema screens with Liam Neeson in the lead role, it has been reported.

The Taken star will be following in the footsteps of the late Leslie Nielsen, who deadpanned his way through three slapstick movies from 1988 to 1994. He first played  Sgt Frank Drebin in the preceding TV series, Police Squad! – and Neeson is tipped to play the son of the original character, following in his footsteps.

Hollywood website Deadline reports that Paramount Pictures is moving forward with a new reboot, saying: ‘While no greenlight has been given, sources say its headed in that direction once a deal closes for Neeson’

Dan Gregor and Doug Mand – who previously penned my Crazy Ex-Girlfriend  – are set to write the script with The Lonely Island’s Akiva Schaffer directing.

The trio just made Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers, which won an Emmy and plenty of plaudits for appealing to an adult and child audience alike.
