Frasier sequel gets the green light
The long-awaited Frasier sequel has finally been given the green light in the US.
Kelsey Grammer will reprise the psychiatrist role he first played on Cheers 38 years ago – but now surrounded by a new cast of characters, Deadline reports.
Original Frasier cast members such as David Hyde Pierce, Jane Leeves or Peri Gilpin might make guest appearances, the industry website suggests, while predicting the new sitcom will initially run for ten episodes.
In a recent interview, Grammer said the character, who moved from Boston to Seattle for the original series, will end up in another new place.
‘He thinks he’s gonna go off and do one thing, and sure enough, his life takes him in another direction,’ he said. ‘And he ends up rich beyond his dreams.’
The new incarnation of Frasier is being made for the Paramount+ streaming service and is written by Chris Harris (How I Met Your Mother) and Joe Cristalli (Life In Pieces).
Frasier ran for 11 seasons between 1993 and 2004, winning a record 37 Emmy Awards at the time.
