Naked Gun! spoofers turn to Nordic noir
The film-makers behind The Naked Gun and Airplane! franchisse are to make a new spoof Scandi-noir series with the BBC.
David Zucker and Pat Proft are to make NoPoFo – short for the Nordic Police Force – with an offshoot of the corporation’s commercial arm, BBC Studios Nordics, and Finnish company lkkas’ Creative Studio.
Each half-hour episode has a different location and features a different cast of supporting characters, including a serial killer who only murders bad heavy rock bands, and an Instagram obsessive who creates ice sculptures out of his victims, trade website Variety reports.
Proft said: ‘It was wonderful to be involved with writers and producers who can turn Nordic Noir into a great comedy target… the chance to deal with gruesome, ritualistic murders by Nordic psychopaths is something That Reminds Me of my own family.’
Jan Salling, head of BBC Studios Nordics, said: ‘I love that Nordic Noir is now so firmly embedded in the global consciousness that it’s ripe for spoof — and, as is demonstrated by NoPoFo,’able to attract the best spoofers in the business.’
Zucker wrote and directed Airplane! with his brother Jerry while Proft is the creator of the Police Academy movies. They worked together on several project including some of the Scary Movie series.
NoPoFo was created by stand-ups Mika Eirtovaara and Riku Suokas, along with screenwriter Heikki Syrjä
